Top five finish on golf’s PGA EuroPro Tour Order of Merit 2017
Woodgate Aviation, always keen to encourage local talent, is sponsoring Bangor golfer, Jonny Caldwell. Not one to disappoint, Caldwell recently finished in the top five of the 2017 PGA Euro Pro Tours Order of Merit, securing him a full European Challenge Tour card for next season.
On his win, Caldwell said, ‘I’m delighted to have done as well as I have. At the beginning of the season, I set myself the goal of being in the top five of the Euro Pro Tour and I’ve achieved that. I’ve worked hard and the support I received from Woodgate Aviation has been massive in helping me reach that goal. I couldn’t have had better sponsors.
“I’ve plenty to work towards now with the European qualifiers and this has been a great boost of motivation for me. Hopefully the success continues in future!’
‘Q’ School
As Jonny said, putting the feet up isn’t an option yet! The second stage of the European Tour Qualifying School began , 3rd November, in Desert Springs, Almeria. From there, Caldwell hopes to progress to the final stage in Tarragona, the following week. If all goes according to plan, this means he’d be in with a chance of guaranteeing a 2018 European Tour card.
Woodgate’s Manager, David Shaw, says the company is thrilled with Caldwell’s success.
‘It’s great to see a local golfer doing so well, particularly at such a high, international level. We believe he’ll go far and we wish him the best of luck in his bid to secure a European Tour card. We’ll do everything we can to support him along the way and have no doubt he has the ability to go far in the golfing world.’
For any avid golfers out there, Jonny Caldwell is a great inspiration to show what can be done with hard work and commitment. If he manages to qualify for the European Tour card, who knows where he’ll go from there? Either way, we’ll be watching!
